Evening Star Designs Opens Crazy Quilting Blog
Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) August 7, 2008 -- Long known as a quality supplier of crazy quilting products, Evening Star Designs has recently opened an informational blog as a companion piece for their catalog site, www.EveningStarDesigns.Citymax.com. The new blog, located at www.CrazyQuiltingBlog.com, will serve as a focal point for members of the crazy quilting community, who combine quilting with needlework to create beautiful and unusual designs.
"I think in general, the blog will be there to discuss things about crazy quilting; how it's done, how to make it work, how to enjoy the process," says Carolyn Cibik, who began Evening Star Designs as a mail order catalog in 1994 and opened the site in 2006. "We'll advise people as to what kind of materials to look for and use, as well as discussing different techniques."
An award-winning quilt maker, Carolyn discovered crazy quilting in the early '90s and wanted to start teaching the technique, but found that it was difficult to obtain the necessary materials despite living in a major metropolitan area. "It occurred to me that if I'm having trouble finding these materials, everyone across the world would be having the same problem," she says. "I started doing some research, and I realized that while the business would not be able to survive as a brick and mortar store in my town, it would work as a mail-order business -- this was prior to the Internet being a place for commerce -- so we started as a mail order catalog business. We tried a couple of sites back in the early days, but the Internet was not then what it is today. Now it's a lot easier to build a site and work with it, keeping it current."
Carolyn hopes that both her supply site and her informational blog help to build the crazy quilting community, increasing awareness of the art and encouraging other quilters to share their work. "I'm not just in it as a retailer; I'm also in it because I want to promote crazy quilting," says Carolyn. "I want people to see how much fun it is, help them learn how to do it, and help them to find beautiful things to put into it so they will have as much enjoyment working with crazy quilting as they can. We have contests, we have a gallery of people's work; I love to see what people come up with. I'm always very proud of everyone. We post those pictures, and we love to share -- I think that sharing helps people grow."
Carolyn is currently considering wholesale inquiries about her catalog, and is trying to promote crazy quilting at local quilt shops. She encourages all those with an interest to visit her blog and store to learn more about the art of crazy quilting.

The term 'crazy quilting? is often used to refer to the textile art of crazy patchwork and is sometimes used interchangeably with that term. Crazy quilting does not actually refer to a specific kind of quilting (the needlework which binds two or more layers of fabric together), but a specific kind of patchwork.
